What Size Mirror Do You Need? A Room-by-Room Guide for Dubai Homes

Choosing a mirror is easy. Choosing the right size is where most people get stuck — too small and it looks like an afterthought, too large and it swallows the wall. This guide gives you simple, room-by-room sizing rules, with measurements that suit the way homes are actually built in Dubai and across the UAE.

Full-length mirrors: aim for 150–200 cm tall

A full-length mirror should show you head to toe with a little room to spare. For most UAE apartments with 2.7–3 m ceilings, 160–180 cm tall is the sweet spot. In a compact bedroom or a rented studio, a 150 cm leaning mirror is easier to place and move. In a villa with high or double-height ceilings, you can go up to 190–200 cm for a genuine statement piece.

A quick test: stand about 1.5 metres back. If you can see your whole body with a bit of space above your head and below your feet, the height is right. For width, 40–60 cm suits one person; 70 cm and up shows a fuller outfit.

Bathroom and vanity mirrors: match the basin

Over a single basin, your mirror should be no wider than the vanity unit and ideally a little narrower — around 60–80 cm wide. Over a double vanity, either one wide mirror or two matched mirrors centred over each basin both work beautifully. For height, leave roughly 10–20 cm between the top of the basin or backsplash and the bottom of the mirror.

In Dubai bathrooms, an LED or lighted mirror is a popular choice — the even light is flattering for makeup and shaving. See our vanity mirrors for dressing-table options.

Statement wall mirrors: the two-thirds rule

Over a console, sideboard or sofa, a mirror looks most intentional when it is about two-thirds the width of the furniture below it. So a 120 cm console pairs nicely with an ~80 cm mirror. Hang it so the centre of the glass sits at roughly eye level — 140–150 cm from the floor, or about 10–15 cm above the furniture.

Round and oval mirrors: judge by diameter

For an entryway or above a basin, a 50–70 cm round or oval mirror is a safe, flattering choice. For a living-room feature wall, 80–100 cm reads as deliberate rather than undersized. The soft shape also balances the straight lines of cabinetry and doorways. Explore round mirrors and oval mirrors.

Quick reference

  • Full-length: 160–180 cm tall (150 cm for small spaces, up to 200 cm for villas)
  • Bathroom over single basin: 60–80 cm wide, no wider than the vanity
  • Statement over console or sofa: two-thirds the furniture width
  • Round or oval feature: 50–70 cm for small spots, 80–100 cm for feature walls
  • Hanging height: centre at 140–150 cm (eye level)

A Dubai-specific tip

If you are renting or simply want to avoid drilling into the wall, a leaning full-length mirror is an easy, flexible choice — you can lean it against the wall and move it around whenever you like.
